Chris almost lost Kirk to Matt Damon!

Chris Pine, much hotter than Matt Damon!

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams has confirmed rumors that his first pick for Kirk wasn´t Chris Pine, but Bourne star Matt Damon! Apparently, they had a couple of meetings but “it didn´t work out”. Looking back Abrams is actually thrilled that he gave the part to little known actor Chris Pine because it makes him more believable:

“With the first Star Wars, you didn’t know who those people were when you saw the movie. You believed that guy was Luke Skywalker. You didn’t recognise him from six other movies. You bought into who this guy was. It is a slippery slope when you cast any actor that is somewhat known. ‘

I guess some cynics might state that the whole point of being a good actor is that people believe you whether you´re playing Chewbacca or Hamlet, but I see where J.J. is going with this. And I for one am very glad he picked Chris over dull Matt.
